The generosity of Texas CPAs allowed the Foundation to fund 50 student scholarships and four cash awards to educators in the 2015-16 fiscal year. The foundation gave a total of $123,500 in scholarships to Texas accounting students.
The Foundation provides scholarship assistance to accounting students who plan to become Texas Certified Public Accountants and enter the accounting profession.
Recipients are accounting majors at a Texas college or university and have the intent of becoming a Texas Certified Public Accountant and entering the accounting profession upon graduation. They also must have a high cumulative college GPA and perform well in accounting classes. Recipients receive $2,500 for the academic year.
Accounting Excellence Award
Awarded since 1969, the Accounting Excellence Award bestows honor to an outstanding accounting student at each of the Texas colleges and universities participating in the programs of the Accounting Education Foundation.
Each recipient receives a recognition plaque, in addition to having his or her name and year engraved on an individual plate for the permanent Accounting Excellence Award plaque at their school. The Award is presented during the spring semester at the local meeting of the TSCPA chapter. This ceremony gives the recipient a chance to meet working CPAs in the vicinity and allows these CPAs the opportunity to congratulate and encourage the award winner.
The foremost guideline in selecting a student for this award is his/her academic record. Both a student’s overall grade point average and his or her accounting major GPA is used by the accounting faculty in choosing a candidate. High moral character of the candidate is essential and should also have high potential for a career in accounting.
