East Texas Professor Receives Outstanding Educator Award
Texas CPA Society Recognizes SFASU Educator for
Teaching Excellence and Contributions to the Accounting Profession

DALLAS — Treba Marsh, CPA and accounting professor at Stephen F. Austin State University, was honored recently with the Texas Society of Certified Public Accountants’ (TSCPA) 2007 Outstanding Accounting Educator Award.

At a ceremony held Oct. 25 during the TSCPA Accounting Education Conference, Marsh received a plaque and a $1,000 award provided by the TSCPA Accounting Education Foundation.

The statewide TSCPA Outstanding Accounting Educator Awards honor Texans who have demonstrated excellence in teaching and who have distinguished themselves through active service to the accounting profession.

Criteria for judging includes instructional innovation, student motivation, the pursuit of learning opportunities for students, involvement in student and professional accounting organizations, and research accomplishments and publications.

Marsh creates a hands-on classroom learning environment, and teaches with a variety of handouts, hands-on models and a number of study aids. Her participative classroom format allows Marsh to work with students individually as well as in groups. Students recognize her enthusiasm and dedication which has led to classroom participation and attendance.

Marsh serves as a mentor to college students who have no role model, offering career advice, internship help and additional guidance.

She generously donates her time with extended office hours, including nights for those who work during the morning and afternoon.

For the last 11 years, Marsh has authored and co-authored a number of journal articles, given numerous presentations at professional meetings, and developed a variety of instructional materials for the classroom.

Marsh is a member of the Texas Society of CPAs as well as the American Institute of CPAs. She serves on a number of committees for the TSCPA East Texas Chapter.
