Dallas Professional Elected to Top Post of Texas Organization
James A. Smith Named Chairman of 27,000-Member Texas CPA Society

DALLAS — Dallas certified public accountant James A. “Jim” Smith was recently elected chairman of the 27,000-member Texas Society of Certified Public Accountants (TSCPA).

Smith will serve a one-year term as the society’s volunteer leader and will chair the organization’s board of directors, which sets policy, manages programs and oversees activities designed to serve Texas CPAs.

Joining Smith as TSCPA officers are Steven R. Goodman, chairman-elect, Houston; Barbara Bass, secretary, Tyler; Jeff Gregg, treasurer-elect, Seymour; and Rance G. Sweeten, treasurer, McAllen.

Along with Smith, Goodman, Bass, Gregg and Sweeten, the following Texas CPAs will serve on the TSCPA Executive Board:

• Rick Baumeister, Fort Worth;
• John Broaddus, El Paso;
• Penny Dear, Austin;
• Dora J. Dyson, Gatesville;
• Janet B. Johnson, Houston;
• B. Jean Lein, Austin;
• Edward L. Lette, Austin;
• Jerry L. Love, Abilene;
• Tracy B. Stewart, College Station; and
• Fred Timmons, San Antonio.

Smith is managing director of Smith, Jackson, Boyer and Bovard, PLLC, a Dallas-based, full-service CPA firm. In his 35 years of professional experience, he has performed audit engagements in real estate development and construction, investment partnerships, manufacturing, utilities, transportation, and health care.

He has worked with companies ranging in size from large, multinational corporations to small, closely held companies. He also has been engaged extensively in tax and financial planning consultations for closely held corporations and their owners.

Smith is a frequent media spokesperson on personal finance and business topics.

He is a graduate of Southern Methodist University with a bachelor’s degree in accounting and economics.
