Texas CPA Society calls for hurricane tax relief

Group Asks Congress to Pass Legislation for Victims of Hurricanes Rita and Wilma

DALLAS — Not only did Hurricane Katrina rip through the Gulf Coast earlier this year with frightening ferocity, so too did Hurricane Rita devastate East Texas and Hurricane Wilma destroy parts of Florida.

However, tax relief comparable to that given Hurricane Katrina victims has yet to reach victims of Hurricanes Rita and Wilma.

That’s why the Texas Society of Certified Public Accountants (TSCPA) is appealing to members of Congress for passage of legislation that will provide much-needed tax relief to affected Texans and Floridians.

Last week, TSCPA leaders sent a letter to the Texas congressional delegation to support S.2020, The Tax Relief Act of 2005, which would extend certain emergency tax relief to taxpayers who were victims of Hurricanes Rita and Wilma.

TSCPA encourages others to contact their legislators in support of the extended tax relief provisions.
