CPAs Named Outstanding Chapter
The prestigious award recognizes chapters that have distinguished themselves through service to their community, the accounting profession, and TSCPA. Under the leadership of President Tal O. Glenn, CPA, chapter members reached out to area residents and students through partnerships with organizations like Junior Achievement. The chapter participated extensively in JA’s programs in Tyler, Longview and Lufkin, with more than 50 members volunteering. The chapter also provided accounting scholarships to students living or attending school in the area. The chapter raised enough money at its fundraising golf tournament to give five $1,500 accounting scholarships, an increase of 45 percent over the prior year. To not only expose business and technology students to the profession but to also meet the business needs of members, the chapter worked with the University of Texas-Tyler to develop an internship program and market the program to local accounting firms and companies. CPAs developed written program requirements and guidelines that are included in manuals for student participants and employers. The program is available to any student enrolled in the university’s College of Business and Technology. Serving alongside Glenn as chapter officers were Violet C. Rogers, CPA, chapter president-elect; Wayne Barton, CPA, vice president; Rodney C. Overman, CPA, vice president; and Robert G. Lindsey, CPA, secretary/treasurer. The East Texas chapter has approximately 775 CPA members in 20 counties. About TSCPA TSCPA (http://www.tscpa.org) is a nonprofit, voluntary, professional organization representing Texas CPAs. The society has 20 local chapters statewide and has 27,000 members, the largest in-state membership of any state CPA society in the United States. TSCPA is committed to serving the public interest with programs that advance the highest standards of ethics and practice within the CPA profession. [ Top ] |
