Abilene CPAs Named Outstanding Chapter
Texas Society of CPAs Honors Abilene Chapter With Top Award

DALLAS — The Texas Society of Certified Public Accountants (TSCPA) recently honored its Abilene chapter with the award for outstanding chapter.

The prestigious award recognizes chapters that have distinguished themselves through service to their community, the accounting profession, and TSCPA.

Under the leadership of President Terry Arrington, CPA, chapter members reached out to the Abilene community and local students through partnerships with Junior Achievement (JA), area colleges and universities, and the Coalition for Building Financial Resources for Economic Empowerment.

During the year, the chapter sponsored a JA class and provided “consultants” to the local JA office. Three members of the chapter served on the board of directors, and other members worked as volunteers in the classrooms.

In addition to its work with JA, the chapter gave three $1,500 scholarships to local college accounting students.

Abilene CPAs joined with the Coalition for Building Financial Resources for Economic Empowerment to provide free income tax preparation for taxpayers who qualified for the Earned Income Credit. More than 280 tax returns were completed, and chapter members were also available by phone to answer questions from the preparers.
