Margin Tax Task Force Wants Your Input

It is widely anticipated that the Texas Legislature will be making adjustments to the new Margin tax when it reconvenes in January 2007.

TSCPA plans to be ready to offer the Legislature its suggestions. TSCPA Chairman Jerry Love, CPA-Abilene, recently appointed a task force to study the new Texas margin franchise tax (House Bill 3). The task force is being asked to determine possible changes to the law to make it more understandable, technically correct and fair.

TSCPA members now have an opportunity to participate in this process. Members can send their concerns about or suggestions to improve the Margin tax to the task force. Send input to task force staff liaison Bob Owen at bowen@tscpa.net.

Any recommendations by the task force will be reviewed by the TSCPA Legislative Advisory Committee and the TSCPA Executive Board before it is presented to legislators for consideration.

Task force members are Barbara Bass, chair, Kathy Applegate, Leroy Bolt, Brad Brookner, Carol Cantrell, George Carefoot, Willie Hornberger, Ira Lipstet and Donna Rutter. The task force had its first meeting Aug. 1, 2006 and hopes to complete its work by Oct.1, 2006.

If you have concerns about or suggestions to improve the Margin tax, please forward your suggestions to Bob Owen at bowen@tscpa.net.
