Considering a Career Change?

Are you thinking about making a change in your career path?

If you’re going back to school to earn the hours required to sit for the CPA exam in Texas, TSCPA is here to help you along the way.

From finding a school to passing the exam and becoming certified – TSCPA has the resources and connections to help make your career change successful.

Getting Connected
The first step to learning more about your chosen profession is to get connected with a professional association. Nontraditional students get a much-reduced dues rate, but enjoy all the same benefits of membership in both the state and local chapter levels as our CPA members. This is an excellent way to meet and mingle with potential employers while learning more about possible CPA career paths. Learn about membership and apply online.

Choosing a School
It’s important to be sure the school and courses you choose will meet the qualifications set by the Texas State Board of Public Accountancy (TSBPA). Be sure to obtain official information regarding qualifications from the State Board.

Finding the Funds
Scholarships are an important part of funding your education. TSCPA offers a list of some of the scholarship opportunities available for accounting students. Find scholarship details and application information.

Getting A Job
Many people considering a career change are working while going to school. If you’re not already working in accounting, you might consider finding a job that will help you put what you learn in the classroom into practice on a daily basis. TSCPA’s online Job Center offers job postings and career search guidance.

Find a Mentor – Members Only
The TSCPA Mentor Network is a program designed to connect accounting students, CPA candidates and young CPAs to more experienced CPAs who can provide guidance on professional issues unique to the accounting profession.  Whether it is an accounting question, a career track query, or something in between, the Mentor Network can connect a less experienced accountant to a seasoned CPA who will try to provide an answer, some coaching, or a little good advice.
